About Us

Bolderaja School of Music and Art is a vocational oriented education institution with indirect administration status, established by the Riga City Council and managed by the Education, Culture, and Sports Department of Riga City Council, providing vocational oriented and interest-related education programmes in music and the arts.

The School has a Music Department, where students can learn to play keyboard, string, wind and percussion instruments. The School’s latest program - Contemporary Rhythm Music - provides students with knowledge of various contemporary music styles and genres and offers specializations appropriate to the content of the program. Students of the music department are involved in collective music-making, playing in various instrumental or vocal-instrumental ensembles, wind ensembles or symphony orchestras. During their classes, students learn about the world's musical heritage, and also pay great attention to the creative work of Latvian composers.

When teaching vocational oriented education subjects, such as drawing, painting, composition and engaging with students in plein-air practice, the teachers of the School’s Arts Department help the students learn about and depict the surrounding cultural and historical environment. This is an important part of the learning process, as it helps the students develop a sense of belonging to the particular urban area, the city and the state in a broader sense.

The School is also the Culture Centre of the neighbourhood, which provides cultural education for the local community, promoting ethnic and social integration and involving the School’s students in the improvement of the cultural environment of the neighbourhood, as well as preparing them for further vocational oriented education.

The School cooperates closely with the Education, Culture, and Sports Department of Riga City Council, which has supported the School’s creative ideas and future vision. The school has on several occasions received financial support for both school events and for the participation of students in international events - competitions, festivals and exhibitions. In turn, the School’s students and teachers participate in other events in Riga with concerts and exhibitions.
